Cada 14 de agosto se celebra el Día de la Bandera Paraguaya, uno de los símbolos patrios más emblemáticos de nuestra historia. En 1942, el gobierno de Argentina promulgó una ley que declara extinguida la deuda procedente de la guerra de la Triple Alianza.
A nivel internacional, un 14 de agosto de 1914, Japón declaró la guerra a Alemania.
En 1923, se fundó la ciudad de Berlín, en Alemania.
En 1947, Pakistán logró su independencia y fue declarado estado soberano tras el fin del Raj británico.
En 1951, murió el magnate de la prensa William Randolph Hearst, promotor de la “prensa amarilla” y sensacionalista.
En 1959, nace el exbasquetbolista estadounidense Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
En 1996, nace Halle Berry, actriz ganadora del Premio Óscar.
